Dorothy Mae (Heichel) Mercatell, 94, of Cabot, died Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Elmcroft of Saxonburg.

 

Born January 1, 1922 in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Roy Heichel and Wynona (Douthett) Heichel.

 

She was a 1940 graduate of Butler High School, was a homemaker, a lifelong resident of Butler, was a former member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church and was currently a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

 

Dorothy loved her family, being a mom was what she was born to be. She nurtured and took care of everyone of her grandchildren and at the age of 89 helped to take care of her two great grandbabie twins. She always said “They did more for her than she did for them”. A kind heart and a patient soul she always loved visits from her grandkids, playing with them and most of all the hugs and kisses and love they gave her. She will have many grandbabies under her wing in heaven.

 

Surviving are her 4 daughters: Linda (Bill) Hinchberger of Slippery Rock, Kathy (Terry) Moore of Sebastian, FL, Joyce (Joe) Thomas of Butler, Netty (Jeff) Clinton of Cabot.

 

2 sons: Jim (Gail) Mercatell of Cabot and Mike (Esmerelda) Mercatell of Sebastian, FL.

 

Grandchildren: Keith (Lisa) Hinchberger, Dave (Holly) Hinchberger, Lisa (Drew) Ecklund, Theresa Collier, Marie Phillips, Kelly (Mike) Buchinsky, Tony (Janice) Mercatell, Joey (Shelby) Mercatell, Steve Hilliard, Stacy Hilliard, Justin (Kelly) Royle, Austin Clinton, Kiley Clinton and James (Claudia) Mercatell.

 

19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

 

1 sister, Donna Palmer.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mercatell, whom she married October 6, 1941, he died May 26, 1980; a son Joe Mercatell; a daughter, Carol Chestnut; a son-in-law, Bob Chestnut; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Mercatell; a grandson, Josh Royle; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

 

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, at 9:30 a.m., at the Funeral Home. Internment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Herman.

 

Memorial Donations may be made to the V.N.A. Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001 or to St. Paul Church, 128 North McKean Street, Butler, PA 16001.
