Earl M. Christy, Sr., 81, of Butler, died early Wednesday morning, February 22, 2017, at his home.

Born January 14, 1936 in Butler, he was a son of the late Charles Harvey Christy and Esther Edith Walters Christy.

Earl was retired from the Plant One Shipping Department of the Armco Steel Plant, following 33 years. He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville, the East Butler Firehall, the V.F.W. #7876 in Chicora, the R.C. Mens Club and the Herman Fire Company and the Happy Hunters in Fenelton, where he belonged to both their horseshoe league and their pool league. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp.

A veteran of the Korean War, Earl served in the United States Marine Corps.

Surviving is his wife, Leetta E. Trimbur Christy, whom he married June 18, 1955.

4 children: Mary Kay (James Sr.) Angert of East Butler, Earl “Buzz” (Sue) Christy, Jr. of Fenelton, Carol (Steve) Rudish Plavi of Cabot and Sandra (Donald) Harrison of Cabot.

10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

1 brother, Richard “Pink” Christy of Butler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Rudish;  a great grandson, Logan John Rudish; a great granddaughter, Alison Mae Downey; 2 brothers, Albert Harvey Christy and Ralph Lee Christy, Sr.; 1 sister, Esther Clark.

There will not be a visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., at St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville. The Rev. Matthew McClain, Pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Donations may be made to St. John's Church, 668 Clearfield Road, Fenelton, PA 16034.
