F. Emma Michalski

F. Emma Michalski, 91, of Butler, died Thursday morning, August 31, 2017, at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born November 2, 1925 in West Winfield, Butler County, she was a daughter of the late Louis Varljen and Mary Dovjak Varljen.

Emma had written essay titled “For Democracy We Fight” and had won a scholarship for it, which allowed her to attend the Butler Business College, where she graduated in 1944. She was partner and owner of the Plane View Inn on Route 8 in Penn Township for 42 years and had also worked as a secretary for the Penn Champ Oil Company for 8 years. She was a member of Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church and had been a former member of the Penn Township Womens Club.

Emmas family would like to thank Concordia for the great care she received, especially the skilled nursing staff.

Surviving is her son, Chester P. “Chuck” Michalski, Jr. and his fiancee Deborah Bowser of Butler.

2 daughters: Joan Louise Michalski of Butler and Mary Ann Williams-Freehling and her husband Eric Freehling of Valencia.

5 grandchildren: Mandee, Nicholas and Kevin Williams; Victory and Nash Michalski.

3 brothers: Frank Varljen of Georgia, John Varljen of Butler and Louis Varljen of North Carolina.

2 sisters: Mary Heist of Butler and Viola “Min” Green of Saxonburg.

A number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester P. Michalski, whom she married November 8, 1947, he died November 14, 2008; 1 brother, Leo Varlen; 1 sister, Matilda “Tillie” Wolfe.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church, 1304 East Cruikshank Road, Butler. The Rev. Robert J. Cedolia, Pastor, will officiate. Internment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Herman.

Her family requests that donations be made to Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church.
