Irene C. Nowakowski

Irene C. Nowakowski, 88, of Butler, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Monday October 30, 2017, at her home.

Born April 7, 1929 in Tarentum, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Tishey and Catherine Ochaba Tishey.

She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, also the ladies auxiliary of the V.F.W. In her earlier years she enjoyed going to camp, duck pin bowling, card club and flower gardening. She went on many family trips visiting Europe, Mexico and Hawaii. During their 67 years together her and Mark were often found singing and dancing together at many functions or surrounded by family and friends at the player piano. She was well known also for her baking of pies, cake decorating and canning. As official wine taster for Mark's Vineyard, she also put Lucy to shame in grape stomping. Her laughter, song and smile will stay in the hearts of all who loved her. 

Irene was proud of her christian foundation which began developing when she attended St Michael's Catholic School and was very involved in assisting the nuns and clergy. Her faithfulness was a life time importance to her. Her strong faith set an example for her family to follow.

Surviving are her sons: Dean A. (Sharon) Nowakowski of Butler and Mark J. (Barbara) Nowakowski of Ashville, NC.

3 daughters: Kathy (Russ) Geibel of Butler, Carol (Bob) Schiebel of Butler and Sheri (Rich) Romano of Collegeville, PA.

10 grandchildren: Marisa (Craig) Kocak, Julie Zamudio, David (Melissa) Nowakowski, Matthew (Tara) Nowakowski, Kimberly (Justin) Tarovisky, Carrie Schiebel, Amy Schiebel, Anne Widenhofer, Sam Widenhofer and Jen McIntosh.

13 great grandchildren.

Her “sister”, Ruth Tishey of Butler.

A step brother, Bill (Debbie) Vakulick of Creighton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark B. Nowakowski, whom she married September 20, 1947, he died June 15, 2014; also 3 brothers and 2 step brothers.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin Street, Butler. The Rev. Harry Bielewicz, Pastor, will officiate. Internment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.

The Womens Council of St. Peter will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Church to recite the Rosary.
