Joseph "Joe" Canel

H. Joseph “Joe” Canel, 76, of Butler, died Wednesday morning, August 24, 2016 in the comfort of his home.

Born May 29, 1940 in Fox Chapel, he was a son of the late Homer Mitchell Canel and Berdena (Kessler) Canel.

Joe received a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a retired Engineer and Land Surveyor, working for PennDot, Bracken Construction and finally Lindy Paving.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, the Association of PA Constructors, the Pennsylvania Asphalt Producers Association, the Western Pennsylvania Constructors Association and the Summit Township Sportsmen Association. He loved hunting and fishing from Wyoming to North Bay to North Carolina to Florida. Mostly he enjoyed his family and the time he spent with them.

Surviving is his wife, Patricia Anne (Henkel) Canel, whom he married April 28, 1962.

2 sons: John Canel and his wife Graciela of Atlanta, GA; Tom Canel and his wife Marcy of Saxonburg.

1 daughter, Penelope Anne Canel and her husband Michael Hickey of Mount Lebanon.

5 grandchildren: Bailey Lewis, Maddie Canel, Lilly Canel, Helen Hickey, Nick Canel.

1 sister, Jean Eckert and her husband William of Aspinwall.

Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Verenes.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean Street, Butler.
