Charles J. McPherson, 71, of Butler, died Friday, May 19, 2017, at his home.

Born April 29, 1946 in Kittanning, Pa, he was a son of the late Ralph McPherson and Eula Snyder McPherson.

Charles was a retired train engineer from the Armco Steel Plant in Butler, following 30 years.. He was a member of the American Legion Post #117, the V.F.W. Post #249, and was a life member of both the DAV and the Vietnam Veterans of America. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved his dogs.

A combat veteran deployed to the Vietnam War on December 19, 1967, he served with the United States Army.

Surviving is his wife, Gertrude L. Wilson McPherson, whom he married June 16, 1972.

2 daughters: Michelle (Jason) Sims and Kelly (Dennis, Jr.) Randolph, all of Butler.

2 grandchildren: Shannon Sims and Adam Ruediger.

1 great grandson, Jordan Ruediger.

2 brothers: Ronald (Margaret) McPherson and John (Bonnie) McPherson, all of Butler.

2 sisters: Connie (Don C.) McElhaney and Marg (Don) Covert, all of Butler.

Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Richard McPherson.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m., at the Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis Krajacic, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Coylesville.
