Craig "Whitey" Mainhart

Craig R. “Whitey” Mainhart, 93, of East Butler, died Friday evening, October 6, 2017, at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born September 1, 1924 in Freeport, PA, he was a son of the late James D. Mainhart and Lydia Craig Mainhart.

Whitey was a retired foreman and turn leader at the Armco Steel Plant Hilltop Processing, following 43 years. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, was a life member of the Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club and had enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Marine Corps. Prior to World War II, he worked at the CCC camp in Sligo, PA and Prescott, AZ.

Surviving are his 2 sons: Robert D. (Mary) Mainhart and Larry C. (Patricia) Mainhart, all of Butler.

1 daughter, Barbara Ann (Stewart) Leister of Sellersville, PA.

1 grandson, Justin C. Mainhart of Butler.

1 great grandson, Michael C. Mainhart.

A number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Abranovich Mainhart, whom he married July 24, 1946, she died March 5, 2007; also his 4 brothers, one who was his twin Clyde, also nicknamed “Whitey”; 2 sisters.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean Street, Butler. The Rev. Harry Bielewicz, Pastor, will officiate. Internment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.

St. Pauls Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church to recite the Rosary.
