Nicholas Burka, Jr., 93, died Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at the V.N.A. Inpatient Hospice.

Born August 11, 1923 in Butler, he was a son of the late Nicholas Burka, Sr. and Mary Mechanic Burka.

Nicholas was a retired turn foreman from the Labor Department at the Armco Steel Plant in Butler following 32 years. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church In Lyndora, the V.F.W. Post 249 in Butler and was a charter member of the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora. He enjoyed traveling, horse racing, casino trips, bowling and golfing.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army with the 170th Field Artillery Pattons 3rd Army in Northern France and Rhineland.

Surviving are his sons, Robert N. Burka of Lyndora and James E. Burka of Butler.

1 daughter, Patricia (David) Prokopchak of Meridian.

3 grandsons, Gregory, Robert and Eric Prokopchak.

3 great grandsons, Seth, Nicky and Zach Prokopchak.

1 sister, Genevieve Tarcha of Colorado.

Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hope V. Vawryk Burka, whom he married September 26, 1948, she died May 25, 2010; also 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at,10:00 a.m., at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church, 21 Evergreen Road in Lyndora. The Rev. Paisiuis McGrath, Pastor, will officiate. Internment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Butler.

Parastas Services will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
