Frances Alene Sankey, 94, of Butler, passed away, Friday morning, April 9, 2021, at Concordia in Cabot.
Born March 7, 1927 in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. Hinchberger and Amanda (Hickey) Hinchberger.
Alene was a homemaker and mother and had worked in the Spaide Shirt Factory during World War II, making field jackets for the military. She had moved 24 times in 18 years all throughout the world, during her husband's military service assignments She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, the South Butler auxiliary and had been a Red Cross volunteer at the Butler Hospital and many military hospitals around the world.
Surviving are her children: Thomas (Corliss) Sankey of Columbus, GA; Barbara Malis of Butler; Donna (George) Huff of Butler; Jacqueline (Bill) Daugherty of Myrtle Beach, SC; Edwin (Joanne) Sankey of Pittsburgh and Ronald (Veronica) Sankey of Butler.
13 grandchildren: Jamie Sankey, Michael (Sharon) Dalcamo, Kimberly (Brian) Weitzel, David (Allison) Dalcamo, Justin Huff, Cybil (Chris) Popovich, Jenna McGrady, Ted McGrady, Chris (Beatrice) Sankey, Nick Sankey, Bradley Sankey, Skye Sankey and Lake Sankey.
16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Robert “Bob” Sankey, whom she married June 6, 1946 at St. Paul Church in Butler, he passed August 4, 2014; an infant brother; 4 brothers, Clarence Morrison, Robert, Charles and Richard Hinchberger; 6 sisters, Elsie Monn, Kathryn Slupe, Mary Shulik, Jean Kingan, Phyllis Slupe and Garnet Kriley; also a son-in-law, Chuck Malis.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 2:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, at 10:00am, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean Street, Butler. Everyone please meet at the Church. Private internment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
Everyone attending is required to provide and wear a facial covering, also practice social distancing.
