Gene P. Rodgers, Sr., 88, of Butler, passed away, Friday evening, February 26, 2021, in the comfort of his home.
Born July 30, 1932 in Butler, he was a son of the late Herman M. Rodgers, Sr. and Irene (Mooney) Rodgers,
Gene was a 1950 graduate of Butler High School and had worked for the Armco Steel Plant in Butler, as foreman in processing maintenance and then as a field engineer. He retired in 1991, following 39 years.
He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and was an avid sports fan, especially following the Pittsburgh teams. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and time at his home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Surviving are his children: Gene P. (Shellie) Rodgers, Jr. of Butler, Patrick (Lori) Rodgers of Butler and Mary (John) McKinney of Renfrew.
6 grandchildren: Randy (Denise) Bowser of Butler, Patrick Rodgers, Jr. of Butler, Zachary Rodgers of Butler, Marcia (Daniel) Wyant of New Castle, Matthew (Roxanna) DeLess of Butler and Ashley (Anshu) Mangotra of Painesville, OH.
5 great grandchildren: Mekenzie, Cameron and Madison Wyant; Ethan and Ty DeLess.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Halahan) Rodgers, whom he married November 22, 1951, she passed April 15, 1976; 1 daughter, Patricia J. Rodgers Bowser; 2 brothers, Herman “Chick” Rodgers, Jr. and John F. Rodgers; 1 sister, Eileen Worth.
Private Services were held for his family. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, Butler. Arrangements by the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler.
