Helen E. Meaders, 100, of Butler passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 27, 1920 in Lyndora, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Sopp) Ligas.
She was the Western Pennsylvania Supervisor for the Auditor General, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She retired in 1985 following 25 years service.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Church in Lyndora. She was a founder of St. John's choir on commission of Archbishop Metropolitan Kocisko, then Pastor of St. John. She helped to restart a second choir in in the 1980's, she was a member of the Ladies Guild.
She was active with the Greek Catholic Union Lodge 109 District 15. She was an avid golfer and bowler and she enjoyed world travel.
Helen was known for the Pysanky eggs that she made for years, original Carpatho-Rusian style. She would make over 100 yearly.
Helen was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary #778 and the Seven Oaks Country Club in Beaver, PA. She was on the Democratic Committee, Ward II in Butler Township for over 35 years.
She was known for her “Holy Night Supper” for many years.
Surviving is her son Rev. Deacon Michael E. (Cynthia) Meaders of Pittsburgh.
2 Step-Grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Guajardo; Step great- grandson, Kyran Guajardo. Step great-granddaughter, Lina Ray Guajardo.
Nieces, Alysia, Michele and Marcy. Nephews, Larry, Kenn and David.
Sister-in-law, Marcia Ligas of Butler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Earl Meaders, he passed away July 2, 1954. 2 sisters, 4 brothers a niece and a nephew.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham St. Butler, PA 16001 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday. Funeral Service Liturgy will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at St. John Byzantine Catholic Church,105 Kohler Ave, Lyndora, PA 16045. Interment will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Butler.
A Parastas Service will he held at 7:00 pm Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
