Richard Desmond, 85, of Butler, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home on Tuesday December 21, 2021.
Born November 24, 1936 in Butler, he was a son of the late Bernard Desmond and Mary (Delzel) Desmond Meals.
He had worked for U.S. Steel in Saxonburg retiring after 28 years and also for the CIA at Ogden Allied retiring after 20 years. He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, had enjoyed working in his yard and spending time at his home in Boynton Beach, FL.
A veteran, Richard had served with the National Guard in 1952 and then the U.S.M.C., as a Sergeant from 1953 until 1956.
Surviving is his wife, Joyce (Ellison) Desmond, whom he married April 15, 1959.
His children: Debra (Craig) Waton of Naples, FL; Russell Desmond of Butler; Kimberly (Mike Papst) Culbertson of Apollo Beach, FL.
1 brother, Daniel Desmond of St. Petersburg, FL.
Grandchildren: Nicole Glasgow of Butler; Brandi Lynch of Orange Park, FL; Roxanne Tarr of Camden NC; Emma Culbertson and Alexander Culbertson, both of Apollo Beach, FL.
2 great grandchildren, Carter and Jamison.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father Clarence Meals; a sister Margorie Desmond; a grandson Chad Glasgow and a son-in-law, Wayne Culbertson.
Friends will be received in the Chapel at the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery, North Main Street in Butler, from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm Thursday. A Blessing Service will be held at 2:30 pm with Deacon Mitch Natali officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion/VFW Honor Guard. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum.
