William “Bill” J. Green, 76 of Sewickley passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born October 18, 1945 in Akron, OH, he was a son of the late Leonard C. and Rita (Becherer) Green.
Bill was a widely respected political analyst in the region and frequently appeared on Pittsburgh-area media outlets such as WPXI-TV and KDKA-AM. He was a key administrator during Governor Dick Thornburgh’s two terms and was the state’s main spokesperson during the crisis of the Three Mile Island nuclear facility in 1979.
In 1987, he founded his own communications firm, William J. Green & Associates, in Pittsburgh, becoming the largest independent public affairs firm in the region.
He was named to governor-elect Tom Ridge’s transition team in 1994 for environmental and energy issues.
Bill is survived by his brother, Robert M. Green and his sister, Patrice (Gary) Franchuk, both of Butler.
A sister-in-law, Christine Schroyer-Green of Florida.
Five nephews, Luke Franchuk of Grove City, ; Sean (Rebecca) Green of Norfolk, VA; Christopher Green, Riley Green and Aiden Masters, all of Florida.
A niece, Brittany Green of Florida.
And numerous cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death his mother, Rita Green, who passed away January 7, 2022, and his brother, Lenny, who passed away in 2015.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham St. Butler, PA 16001 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday. A Blessing Service will follow at 7:00 pm Thursday at the Funeral Home. Rev. Fr. Jack Nanz officiating. Interment will be at St. Peter Cemetery in Butler.
