William "Bill" Whitacre

William (Bill) Eugene Whitacre, 87, of Gettysburg PA passed away Tuesday January 4, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born January 15,1933 in Rural Valley, PA.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mavourneen (Bennie) Bender Whitacre. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in April 2020.

Bill had two adoring daughters Brenda Whitacre O’Rourke and her husband George of Bloomsburg, PA and Shelly Whitacre Palacios and her husband Fernando of Montgomery Village, MD. Four grandchildren: Lindsay O’Rourke, Olivia Palacios, Sophia Palacios and Ian Palacios.

In addition to his late parents Lula Whitacre and Walter Whitacre, he was preceded in death by his sister Geneveive Seybert, his brother Carl Schrecengost, his sister Martha Patterson, his brother Robert Whitacre, and his nephew Gary Seybert.

Bill was a graduate of Butler High School. He attended Pennsylvania State University and graduated with a BS degree in Hotel Administration. After graduation he served in the military for 2 years. He worked many years as an executive in the hotel industry. Bill and Bennie owned a framing business for many years in Gaithersburg, MD. They retired to Gettysburg, PA and built their log home in the woods where they lived for 27 years.

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon Monday. A Blessing Service will follow at 12:00 noon, at the Funeral Home. The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
